Google Play Scraper
play.google.com
Google Play is served through a dedicated plugin endpoint rather than the generic page fetch. In app mode, give it a package id like 'com.whatsapp' and it returns the listing already parsed: title and developer, the star score with its rating count and review total, the full rating histogram, the install count, the price and in-app purchase range, the content rating, the long description, the screenshot URLs, the current version, the last-updated date and what's-new notes, plus the apps Play lists as similar. In search mode, give it a term like 'vpn' and it returns the matching apps, each with id, title, developer, score and installs. It reads the data Play embeds in the page itself, so there is no Play Developer account or API key involved.
What you can extract
- App title, developer, package id and a clean store URL
- Star score, rating count, review total and the full rating histogram
- Install count, price and in-app purchase range
- Content rating, current version, last-updated date and what's-new notes
- Long description and screenshot image URLs
- Search mode: matching apps with id, title, developer, score and installs
Dedicated endpoints
/apps/google-play App detail or app search on Google Play
One Play app in full (mode=app, app_id): title, developer, score, ratings, reviews, histogram, installs, price, in-app purchases, content rating, description, screenshots, version, updated, whatsNew and similar apps. Or matching apps (mode=search, q): id, title, developer, score and installs. Set hl/gl for language and store country; bound search with max_results.
How to scrape it
curl -X POST \
-H "X-ScrapeUnblocker-Key: $SU_API_KEY" \
"https://api.scrapeunblocker.com/apps/google-play?mode=app&app_id=com.whatsapp"import requests
resp = requests.post(
"https://api.scrapeunblocker.com/apps/google-play",
headers={"X-ScrapeUnblocker-Key": SU_API_KEY},
params={"mode": "app", "app_id": "com.whatsapp"},
)
print(resp.text)import { ScrapeUnblockerClient } from 'scrapeunblocker';
const su = new ScrapeUnblockerClient({ apiKey: process.env.SU_API_KEY });
const app = await su.googlePlayApp('com.whatsapp');
const results = await su.googlePlaySearch('vpn', { maxResults: 30 });
console.log(app);
console.log(results); Requests are POST and take their parameters in the query string. Browser rendering always happens - there is no flag to enable.
Frequently asked questions
Is it legal to scrape Google Play?
Collecting publicly available Google Play data such as app titles, ratings and install counts is lawful in many jurisdictions, but the rules depend on your country, the data you collect and how you use it. ScrapeUnblocker returns the public page; what you collect and how you use it is your responsibility.
How do I scrape Google Play without getting blocked?
Google Play is protected by Google's own anti-bot systems. ScrapeUnblocker rotates residential and ISP exits and handles challenges, and the Google Play plugin returns the listing as parsed JSON. In ScrapeUnblocker's benchmark it returned real content on 100% of 1,000 calls, about 2.3s per call.
What Google Play data can I get?
In app mode: title, developer, package id and store URL, star score, rating count, review total and the full rating histogram, install count, price and in-app purchase range, content rating, current version, last-updated date, what's-new notes, the long description and screenshot URLs. Search mode returns matching apps with id, title, developer, score and installs.
Do I need a Google Play API or developer account?
No. The Google Play plugin returns app details and search results as JSON without a Google Play API account or developer account on your side. Pass mode=app with a package id such as com.whatsapp, or mode=search with a term such as vpn, and your ScrapeUnblocker key is the one credential you need.
Can I scrape Google Play for a specific country or language?
Yes. Set gl to the store country as an ISO-2 code (default us) and hl to the language code (default en), and the plugin returns the app listing or search results for that store and language. You can also set proxy_country to pick the exit country, or leave it blank and ScrapeUnblocker picks the exit.
How much does it cost to scrape Google Play?
Pricing is per request: 1 request = 1 credit, from EUR 1.00 per 1,000 on pay as you go to about EUR 0.55 per 1,000 on the Ultimate plan. Plugin calls use the same plan quota as any other request. In search mode, one call returns one page of up to 100 apps (max_results). Blocks, timeouts and errors on ScrapeUnblocker's side are not billed, and the free trial includes 500 requests with no card.
