98.6% Success rate

AWS WAF Protection
1,100 calls Measured over

Similarweb's public website page estimates any site's traffic, but it sits behind AWS WAF and meters free views per visitor: past a small allowance it serves the same page with every number set to zero, which looks like data but is not. A dedicated plugin endpoint takes a domain, any URL on the site or a Similarweb page URL, opens the page as a new visitor on every call and returns the overview already parsed: global, country and category rank with their monthly change, total visits for the latest month and the change, bounce rate, pages per visit and average visit duration, visits and ranks for the last three months, the traffic-source split, top countries, gender and age groups, similar sites with their affinity, the organic and paid search split with top keywords and their CPC, top social networks, referring sites, outgoing links, display-ad publishers, technologies, audience interests and the company profile. The figures are Similarweb's own estimates, and snapshotDate names the month they describe. A domain Similarweb has no page for comes back with found: false and the same keys empty, so every response has one shape.

What you can extract

  • Global, country and category rank, each with its month-over-month change
  • Total visits for the latest month with the change, bounce rate, pages per visit and average visit duration
  • Visits and ranks for each of the last three months, and the month the data describes
  • Traffic-source split, top countries by share, and audience gender and age groups
  • Similar sites with their category, category rank and affinity
  • Organic and paid search split, the keyword count and top keywords with CPC
  • Top social networks, referring sites, outgoing links, display-ad publishers, technologies, audience interests and the company profile

Similarweb website overview

Similarweb's public overview for a domain (a bare domain, any URL on the site or a Similarweb page URL): globalRank, countryRank and categoryRank with their changes, totalVisits and visitsChangePercent, bounceRate, pagesPerVisit, avgVisitDuration, visitsHistory and rankHistory for the last three months, trafficSources, topCountries, demographics, competitors, search (organic and paid split, top keywords), socialNetworks, referrals, outgoingLinks, displayAds, technologies, audienceInterests and company. found is false for a domain Similarweb has no page for, hasTrafficData is false for a site too small to estimate; proxy_country is optional.

How to scrape it

curl -X POST \
  -H "X-ScrapeUnblocker-Key: $SU_API_KEY" \
  "https://api.scrapeunblocker.com/seo/similarweb?domain=github.com"
import requests

resp = requests.post(
    "https://api.scrapeunblocker.com/seo/similarweb",
    headers={"X-ScrapeUnblocker-Key": SU_API_KEY},
    params={"domain": "github.com"},
)
print(resp.text)
import { ScrapeUnblockerClient } from 'scrapeunblocker';

const su = new ScrapeUnblockerClient({ apiKey: process.env.SU_API_KEY });

const results = await su.similarwebOverview('github.com');
console.log(results);

Requests are POST and take their parameters in the query string. Browser rendering always happens - there is no flag to enable.

Frequently asked questions

Is it legal to scrape Similarweb?

Collecting the traffic estimates Similarweb shows on its public website pages is lawful in many jurisdictions, but the rules depend on your country, the data you collect and how you use it. The figures are Similarweb's estimates, not the site's own analytics, so present them as estimates. ScrapeUnblocker returns the public overview; what you collect and how you use it is your decision.

How do I scrape Similarweb without getting blocked?

Similarweb sits behind AWS WAF, which answers a new visitor with a JavaScript challenge and refuses some exits outright, and it meters free views per visitor: past a small allowance it serves the page with every number zeroed. The /seo/similarweb plugin renders the page in a fresh browser profile on a fresh exit for every call, waits for the challenge to clear, moves to another exit when one is refused, and returns data only from a page that is not view-limited. In ScrapeUnblocker's benchmark it answered 98.6% of 1,100 calls with different domains, with the overview or with found: false for a domain Similarweb does not track, about 9.5s per call.

What data do I get for a website?

The global, country and category rank with their monthly change, total visits for the latest month and the change, bounce rate, pages per visit and average visit duration (as text and in seconds), visits and ranks for each of the last three months, the traffic-source split, the number of countries and the top countries with their share, the gender split and age groups, similar sites with their category, category rank and affinity, the organic and paid search split with the keyword count and top keywords with CPC, and the top social networks, referring sites, outgoing links, display-ad publishers, technologies, audience interests and the company profile: founding year, headquarters, employee and revenue range. Similarweb's free page shows only part of this: channels it does not reveal come back with share null, and sites it keeps for paying users come back with domain null and locked: true.

Do I need a Similarweb account or API key?

No. Similarweb's API needs a Similarweb account and an API key; the plugin needs neither, and no login: send a domain with your ScrapeUnblocker key and get the overview back as JSON. You get the same estimates Similarweb shows signed-out visitors on its website page.

What happens when Similarweb has no data for a domain?

A domain Similarweb has no page for comes back with found: false and the data keys null or empty, so you can tell it apart from a failure, which returns an error status. A site Similarweb tracks but finds too small to estimate comes back with found: true and hasTrafficData: false. A leading www. is dropped, and subdomains such as docs.python.org are looked up on their own, because Similarweb tracks them separately.

How much does it cost to scrape Similarweb?

Each call is one request: one domain, one overview. 1 request = 1 credit, EUR 1.00 per 1,000 on pay as you go, down to about EUR 0.55 per 1,000 on the Ultimate plan. Blocks and timeouts are not billed, and the free trial includes 500 requests with no card.
